Shiso (Perilla frutescens) — An aromatic, versatile, and vibrant herb common to Japanese cooking. Also sometimes called perilla, shiso features jagged leaves with a bright, sesame aroma and subtle notes of mint, anise, and basil, the flavor is lively but delicate. Available in both red and green varieties.

Storage:

  • Keep stems trimmed and leaves wrapped lightly in a damp paper towel inside a breathable container in the refrigerator; use within a week for best flavor.
