We never cease to be amazed at all the shit we pull out of this soil; stuffed animals, mylar sheeting, styrofoam coolers, chunks of tar, old tires, chairs, the soles of shoes, and so much fucking plastic. This land was once a pristine natural forest, home to Indigenous Tribes that left arrowheads as evidence. This is what western capitalism did to our planet. Our soil is where stuffed animals, waterbottles and industrial waste go to die, and they’re taking us with them. We know it, and we’re scared about it, but most people aren’t willing to change their lifestyles to do anything about it, so we blame politicians and corporations, because #directaction is infinitely more challenging and humbling.

These photos represent what our founding concepts of individualism, convenience culture, a right to comfort, and infinite growth actually produce.

The reclamation of this land has proven to us that there is no AWAY, that magical place things we don’t want anymore goes to. We know very keely that everything we create is right here, right now, and WE ARE RESPONSIBLE for healing this… we, us, our… not someone else, a non-profit, a politician, a CEO, US. They change because we change.

We have spent literal days pulling hundreds of pounds of trash out of the soil. Like an archeological dig we find traces of development throughout time. It’s enlightening and so very sad. As an #impact #designer, I happen to know this is the actual work of healing this planet.

Tony and I feel it with every muscle in our tired 40-something bodies, that this must be done. This reclamation is our mini- revolution in taking our power back from these systemic abuses by reclaiming the earth, growing food, creating community, and fostering healing.
